For those of you who have been waiting years to see Prima Donna, Rufus Wainwright will present his first opera at the Manchester International Festival in July 2009.  There will be five performances and tickets are already on sale, with the first performance set for July 10.  Rufus had been working on this project for the Metropolitan Opera, but apparently they couldn’t fit it into their schedule until 2014 and were not interested in presenting a new work in French.

Rufus will not appear in Prima Donna, but this project has been on the pipline for years and it’s thrilling to see it finally come to fruition.  In an ideal world I would be there, but right now it’s not feasible to plan it.  I’m quite sure he’ll bring the show to America, Met or no Met, and I can’t wait to hear what folks have to say about it.
